What we Sing

The Choir sings choral music of all types – sacred, secular, serious and light music, choir members are encouraged to suggest pieces to sing. Our Christmas concert is, as you would, expect full of Christmas carols and other festive tunes.

In recent years we have sung Bob Chilcott’s lively arrangement of the twelve days of Christmas, excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, Winter Wonderland, Jubilate and the Christmas Lullaby by John Rutter as well as usual and unusual carols. As with all our concerts members are invited to sing solos or read a poem, some favourite prose or even something that they have written themselves.

The Summer concert is a completely different affair with sunny music, light hearted verse and much frivolity. In the past our music has included a medley of Abba tunes, Les Miserables, When the Saints go Marching in and many other famous – and not so famous pieces.

Choir members often participate in other events and activities including a very successful 'Flash Mob' in Lancaster's Marketgate shopping centre when shoppers were treated to a lively and spirited version of the Hallelujah chorus from Handel's Messiah.
